I've always been amused by the buzz following any story regarding Steve Jobs or any product from Apple.

Harsh critics and die-hard fans of Apple never fail to provide humorous amounts of sensational comments. That's why I love this video from the Onion, on the new Macbook. "Wheel."


The keyboard is replaced by a giant version of the touch-sensitive wheel featured on iPods, and Mac enthusiasts rave about the "simplicity" of Apple's latest product. During a mock interview, Brian Gilman, a fictional "Senior Product Innovator" for Apple said:

 

At Apple our philosophy is create products that are simple to use, and nothing is more simple than a single giant button..Everything is just a few-hundred clicks away. We like to think we're giving customers features that they don't even realize they want yet.

 

My favorite "feature" on the Macbook Wheel was the "Predictive Sentence Technology" which completes the sentence for you. As an iPhone user, I've learned just how often  auto-complete feature is more of an inconvenience than a perk. (Yet I can't convince myself to deactivate it.)

Not that we needed more bad news about the economy, but more than half of Americans are doubting if President-Elect Barack Obama can make a positive impact on the economy.
 
The results are from a survey  conducted by Vertical Response, which hosts online surveys and provides email campaigns with tracking and analytics.

The survey was conducted from Dec.3-15 and polled 302 random business clients.Democrats represented the majority of respondents, (53%), followed by Republicans (32%), Independents (4.3%) and Green Party (1.7%). 8.2% were listed as "Other".

Despite the Democrat majority in the survey, only 45.1% of its respondents believe Obama's administration will have a positive impact on small business.
Other interesting stats derived from the survey include:

  • 83% of the respondents surveyed make less than $250,000.
  • 80% of respondents see economy as primary concern.
  • 72.5% have not had to lay off workers.
  • 66% have already felt the negative impact of recession.
  • 55.3% are sole proprietorship LLCs.
  • 31.6% are corporations.
  • 14.4% are still hiring.
  • 6% are non-profits.
  • Remainder are described as"other."
  • 42.7% lived in urban  areas.
  • 41.3% lived in suburban areas.
  • 15.9% were located in rural America.
  • Respondants were split nearly evenly throughout the regions of the country.

Judging from the results, I think it's safe to say that average Americans view this recession as a crisis that's too large for any single man or administration to handle, because it has spread to every segment of society.

William Dunkelberg, the chief economist for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), told Reuters:

Everybody is trying to hang on now.More and more of these firms are in survival mode. They kept thinking consumers will make it, but then December rolls around and sales are still not going anywhere -- in fact they're going down -- and finally (small businesses) run out of money.

Higher Page Rank brings More Web Traffic

Many surfers use the Google or Alexa toolbars that integrates into their web browsers which and makes it easier for them to search and navigate through Internet. However, how many of these same surfers have the "overall page rank" indicator on these bars which shows either a ranking or the importance of the page?

The overall page rank in directories like Google, Yahoo or Alexa is the key factor while doing a search. It decides which websites or pages deserves the top places in the results of the search of a given keyword. The search engine basically uses several calculations to decide the importance of each webpage. For example, let's say that you prepared a webpage supplying the users with focused, detailed and understandable information. You think your page deserves a high importance, therefore when you search for the theme of your website, you believe it should be shown in the top 20. Well, sometimes life is cruel. If you didn't optimize your webpage for a specific keyword, if you don't get enough inbound links directing other users to your site, you would probably be disappointed by your sites 1 to 10 importance rating in Google. However don't despair! It's still worth fighting for. Here are several of the factors which are figured into the calculation to decide the ranking of a website. First of all, Internet is not like the streets of a city: if you put your "shop" in a busy street, people will drop by your place. No visit on Internet is a coincidence, you must have links from other sites (inbound links). You also have to increase the internal linking to interesting content within your website so that visitors will "hang around" on your site and hopefully tell others. So your first factor for the page rank is the linking of your page. Secondly, pages which attract more users (i.e. number of unique daily users) are obviously more important in the "eyes" of the search engines. This, being the dependent variable in our equation, grows directly proportional to the inbound links. So, page rank also increases with the number of unique users. At last, relative, focused content increases the importance of your page (page rank). Initially, every page you add to your site increases the overall page rank of the whole before you start adding other improvements such as in-context hyperlinks, because according to Google authorities, the hyperlinks that you place inside the content of the page are accepted to be more valuable. On the web, there are No lucky days, No coincidences or serendipities. If you want traffic on your page, you must create it yourself. You have to put quality, focused original and interesting content on your page and you have to increase the number of the inbound links. The traffic on your site will increase automatically depending on the other variables. Finally, one day you will look at your site and see that the page rank has jumped from 1 to 4 or even higher and you will rejoice.
